i'm listening to the final ripley podcast now. it doesn't seem as if there's any answer at all. were you exposed in any way? could it be that someone is now posing as you somewhere? or could it be that there's someone who wanted to hurt you?
The guy was obviously just playing. You were in love with the idea of being in love and he probably could sense that you were a willing prey.
The first instance of his inconsistency should have been considered a red flag.. He was simply too good to be true :-)
im hoping that u will see each other soon and hear his side of what had happened...
though i did not hear his side, i felt that he loved and cared for u over time but distance was the ultimate barrier.
his lies might be his desperate move just to make the line open, because he knew at the very start that his love for u will not materialize, not until the real time (vacation) will come which (most of the time) the number of days can be counted on your fingers.
he might be ordinary people in new york that needs time and money to go home; he just felt so inferior on your achievements that his only option is to please at all cost, LYING.
Ecuadorian roses & chocolates, giving him gift through your sister, going to the address he gave were clear indications that you are so much in love with him.
but regardless...
what matters most is you oved at all.
