cc quickie: Guilt

I feel guilty for feeling like I do towards some friends of mine.

I am disappointed that I did not receive any note of gratitude for the gifts I gave some friends. Not one SMS. Not one Thank you. A part of me chides me for feeling this way. So unChristian.

But another part continues to feel it anyway. And that part wants to be honest about it even to them. If and when we encounter each other, I feel I should tell them I was disappointed. So they know. I have no intention of breaking the friendship anyway.

But then again, shouldn’t I just discard the feeling and forget it? They have their reasons for forgetting. Maybe they were just too busy.

Sabi nga sa book na nabasa ko

“If you hold back on the emotions--if you don't allow yourself to go all the way through them--you can never get to being detached, you're too busy being afraid. You're afraid of the pain, you're afraid of the grief. You're afraid of the vulnerability that loving entails. But by throwing yourself into these emotions, by allowing yourself to dive in, all the way, over your heard even, you experience them fully and completely.”
― Mitch Albom, Tuesdays With Morrie

Kaya ok lang yan :)

I've learned that speaking one's truth is the best defense against pent up resentments. What works for me is expressing my disappointment/anger/frustration through this manner: "I felt ____ when you did (or did not) ____." In this approach, I voice out my truth of what I felt to the other person and make them accountable for it, not really telling them that they did something wrong. And in my experience, people most usually respond to this in a very positive way. Oh and by the way, don't feel guilty about feeling that way. You're as normal as everybody else :-)

i think it's okay. just feel it, get pissed, rant about it with a couple of trusted friends, then forgive and let go. :)
