pocahontas on steroids
avatar, that is. a belated review. yeah, yeah, im such a loser having watched the movie just now. 3D imax. cool. my problems with 3D: one of my eyes is not as clear as the other. so there is some impairment there. and it takes some adjustment. i was getting dizzy during the first scenes (in the sleeping chambers). the foreground elements become distracting at certain points, put there to relay depth. finally, there's still motion blur. this, i guess, will improve soon. well this is the future of movies so i might as well get used to it.
im just so amazed with director james cameron. how does he do it? how could he know the pulse of a new generation of movie goers so much to be able to create this mega blockbuster? how could he do it so consistently? this used to be steven spielberg's domain.
actually, everything in avatar is on steroids. nature and technology, all notched several levels up. love the bioluminescence during night time. floating islands? with waterfalls? omg.
indigenous people. so 80's. i would have thought they'd be referred to using more advanced terminology. hehe.
like the twist: our hero is physically challenged. who gets to play out a dream, a fantasy in real life.
neural remote control of another biological entity, a hybrid. i can now imagine the blu ray version having a long discussion of the possibilities of such as an additional feature.
on the downside. well, characters are pretty one-dimensional, clearly delineated. especially the corporate honcho. ouch. hehe
i hope there is no sequel or prequel. hehe. that doesnt seem to be cameron's style. can't wait for the blu ray.

Or as one wag puts it, AVATAR = Dances With Smurfs. Lol.
Prius
I felt dizzy when I first tried watching a movie in 3D (Pixar's UP). Pero iba dito eh, pinakain ako ng graphics.
Bioluminescence is so cool. Sana ganun na lang dito sa mundo. LOL.
Totally agree with Anon on Dances with Smurfs.
Incidentally - one of the running joke with my barkada regarding Smurfs --- Why is Smurfette the only female Smurf? No actual answer - but how sure are we that she was female all her life?
AVATAR is a great movie. Astig ang effects. I read today that James Cameron is hinting of an Avatar sequel.
Discussions are already being made for the sequel. They're planning two.
yes, the story is so worn out, and yes, mr cameron is planning a sequel
Sam
he did sequels with aliens. no, sorry, he did a sequel FOR the aliens franchise - the second one i think, the one where sigourney weaver boards a similar human-powered/controlled-robot/droid (what's it called ba talaga?).
IMAX really? when? time? baka mamaya nakita at nakasabay na pala kita ng di namamalayan. hehehehe
Yeah I didn't understand what the hype was all about. The first word that came out of my mouth after seeing the film was like yours.
"It's just a fucking Pocahontas!"
I heard it's set to be a trilogy. Good luck expanding the story, though.
i wasn't so impressed with the trailer, i thought it was stupid, specially the blue people. but my friends said it was totally good, and i wasn't disappointed. :)
i watched it late na rin... (last week of january). i thought, i would not be able to withstand seeing the "blue people" on the big screen (3D pa!!) Natakot kasi ako sa hitsura nila sa trailer pa lang... hehehe...
ok naman pala... it was indeed a landmark film... and it made people go back to the cinema theatres once again... (coz it would be very boring to watch it on DVD at home)
