the beauty of the black swan

amazing movie. dark but triumphant. how do you mix the two? successfully for the director! i love the way she unraveled. yet, it seemed that in the end, it wasn't a decline to madness. it was actually an ascent to perfection of an art.

perfection is liberating, ultimately. bravo.

I loved the movie, as well. Disturbing, but very good.

For me, her death represented freedom. For both the character of the white swan and Nina's character. In the case of the white swan, freedom from the curse. And in the case of Nina, freedom from madness and imperfection.

i agree. really disturbing. i'm glad i wasn't in her place. trying to be perfect but losing your place in the process...

Would you die to reach perfection for your art? How far would you go?

Didn't like the casting of Vincent Casell as the "prick" director. I wasn't convinced. Everyone else was perfect.

@ethan the logic of a mind twisted is not the logic of the ordinary mind. but one can understand as that mind is dissected, the motivations behind the behavior, even if the outcomes are horrid or disturbing!

This movie is about the quest/desire for freedom. Nina wants freedom but is terrified of it. Lilly already has wings (literally tattooed on her back being the symbol of freedon) and what does Nina have? Scratches on her left shoulder (Where a wing is trying to emerge?) Only Nina the "sweet girl" dies in the end (no one can dance with a glass shard in their stomach for 60 minutes). And her performance wasn't "pertfect".Nina the "sweet girl" would never have thought that. She fell. Have you ever been to a ballet where the principle falls? What was perfect was that she wasn't standing in her own way anymore. The "sweet girl" (white swan) had to go. She is free at the end, not dead. All symbolic and has nothing to do with ballet. The quest for perfection is what keeps Nina from living or keeps her living in her own head. Freedom is life and life is perfection. Even when you fall.
