ten commandments

i just read the Ten Commandments as today's 1st reading. such powerful statements, orders actually by Him Almighty.

thou shall not take the Lord God's name in vain. - i used to think that it was related to vanity. hehehe

thou shall not covet thy neighbor's house, wife, male or female slave - hmmm. to feel immoderate desire towards another's possession. i felt a knife go through my heart as i thought of dr summa cum laude, or even attached cutie. both of them are in relationships. and both of them i desire immoderately... or do i? am i already coveting them with my wish to have them as lovers. or does coveting them entail actually making plans to steal them away from their loved ones?

conceptual discussion lang eto mga pare... :)

hi mr. cc

since conceptual discussion po, there is one clear cut verse in the new testament that augments this commandment you posted.

it's in Matthew 5:27-28. i will use the The Message Bible version in today's contemporary language.

"You know the next commandment pretty well, too: Do not go to bed with another's spouse. But don't think you have preserved your virtue simply by staying out of bed. Your heart can be corrupted by lust even quicker than your body. Those leering looks you think nobody notices - they also corrupt. Having this, you have already committed adultery in your heart.

just answering lang po the bible with the bible - i guess there is no other opinion of higher authority

just an addition lang sir cc i hope you won't mind

yes, there is a reason why it is called the OLD testament

just want to share, I have asked that question myself many times and found an answer from an old wise friend who is a priest working in the Vatican

doesn't mean it's OLD testament, it's out-dated, nor should it be kept behind our dusty cupboards

sorry sir cc just want to clarify lang po, what God commanded in the OLD testament still stands and is fulfilled through Christ in the NEW testament

well, Christ said "a new commandment I give to you - that you love one another"

this doesn't mean po that the OLD commandment should be debunked, in fact, if you look closely, it is actually the over-all fulfillment of the OLD

God cannot contradict His own words, be it written before, during, or after Christ. otherwise, He is nothing more than a human that also commit mistakes and is a liar.

as humans, we have the tendency not to be perfect and forget many things and misinterpret, so through a loving God, he demonstrated that the OLD commandments can only be fulfilled by loving him and our neighbors in the NEW

sometimes, when we think and believe that we love somebody who is married, is actually, in a way, we are sowing seeds of discord, whether we see it or not - in the end, we may ruin lives, and hurt people, especially if they have children

and so is true the law of Physics, that in every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction

yes, it can be kept as secret, but no secret remains a secret. God warns us not because he wants to punish us, but because he can see the consequences of those actions both in our lives and the lives of people involved around us. so what we do, will actually judge who we are. which may ultimately affect our reputation, considering that our position in the present society is already sensitively controversial

pero sir, it is still your choice, your free will and whatever decision you make ofcourse should be highly respected.

just needing to clarify lang po things

God bless
