Who'd Be Scared of An intimi-DATE with a Fabcaster?

I got the permission of some of the fabcasters to publish this email thread. It shows what fabcasters do on a dateless weekend! LOL

feel free to act, react dear raiders! what do you think?

Hello Fabcasters,

Let's fabcast while I'm in Manila next week! Our topic is: SINGLEHOOD!

Isipin ninyo na what spin we can give to this topic, or if you have any idea how to make it more interesting.

Game?

Let me know too your best schedule for the recording.

Guys let's sched this properly at start na ng shoot nila next week (already started shooting this week at locations near/ within manila) and I want to be there... additionally medyo gearing up ang renovation ... :P

my take: singlehood: why do a lot of people say I'm incapable of being single (ie when i told people that i am single, they reply with "but for how long"). ><

Ay, baliktad tayo, Tony. When I tell people I'm single, they reply with, "For SO long?!" AHAHAHAHAHA!

GAME AKO SA TOPIC. TWO YEARS SINGLE. AND COUNTING. oh di ba? all caps pa? since all the fabcasters are single (tama ba??), perfect topic.

masyado bang mataas ang standards ng fabcasters for jowa material? hehe

on grindr, a raider messaged me. fan ko daw sa blog. and he wants to meet up but 'he is scared'. megaknown. when probed. he thinks he is so ordinary compared to my 'fab life'. are we scaring them off now? LOL. eh ano pa kaya ang isang megastar na mgg? or star for all seasons na gibbs? or diamond star na mcvie? BWAHAHA

yun lang.

p.s. pass ako sa mggff may 29 parteh. i have another parteh on that night. :-(

Is FAME preventing us from having a love life? Is singlehood the price of fame? Shet, ganito pala ang feeling ng nag-iisang Sharon, o Vilma, o Maricel.

Teka, teka lang. EH LAHAT SILA MAY LABLAYF EH! (Maricel's got a long-time GF.) Hahaha!

Wahaha... Honest opinion? We have high standards (a least most of us do) and to be honest we are intimidating (each in his own right) IF they know what we do an what our backgounds are....

I always hear that, we are intimidating... So what does one do? I usually dumb down my achievements at the start and when a person is comfortable eh pakonti-konti nila nalalaman. Not so intimidating anymore kasi kilala na yung person behind the 'face' PAK! achieve na achieve!

ay! i beg to differ.... once you start "interviewing" people during a normal conversation and make them become introspective eh intimidating ka. Wahaha.
actually here are our intimidating factors the way i see it....

1. mgg: comes off as very opinionated and direct to the point, also inquisitive = almost stern in his opinions (but the opposite is in fact true and actually wants to be challenged, which ironically is in itself intimidating rin)
2. gibbs: inquisitive and makes one think introspectively. might be seen as prying and scares people kasi some people aren't ready to answer questions about themselves.
3. mcvie: sharp wit with a dash of flamboyant (not flaming flamboyant, pero flamboyant ang mga hirit). Might be seen as being glass half empty rather than a half full kind of guy.
4. cc: successful + achieves things if he puts his mind to it + flirty = unable to commit
5. aj: bitch. period. Hahaha

of course these are very shallow observations that people can make at first glance... pero then again, first impressions last.

O ha! (in a very nasal voice)

Sorry naman delayed reply, parang menstruation ko lang - delayed (I might be pregnant).

On singlehood, Ive been single for a year and a half. There are so many reasons why, but it all boils down to me being too lazy to go through the motions of dating. When I tell people I've been single for quite a time now, they respond with a resounding WHY? Ang sagot ko lang is, "because even if I like tamod, I'm tamad." Pero I agree na matataas nga standards natin. Para ano pa't naging magaganda tayo kung hindi naman natin gagamitin ang kagandahan natin. Char!

Intimidating nga naman ang Fabcasters. Feeling ko one perception that people who don't know us personally is that we are intimidating prospects, prospects talaga (at least na-consider). I know many think of us as a fun group but when it all boils down to us as individuals, naloloka na sila.

Tony, I'm not a bitch! I'm just overly honest! Haha.

Nakakatuwa. Fabcasters on email, hangkukulit.

But I agree with AJ when he said na you're a fun group, but the BOTTOMline is that individually you have that X factor that most people would find either intimidating or engaging.

I think the most intimidating fabcaster is CC. Or should I say master CC? *bows down*. I think he's got it all, uhmm well, most of it! He's intelligent, undoubtedly an achiever, and clearly at the top of his game. Did I mention he also has a nice looking body? (does this mean then, that he also has a good-looking face?) Nevermind. Face value or no face value, this guy is just way up there. He's a guy with the right mix of good characteristics, The most outstanding issue though - Infidelity. Makes him all the more intimidating. Would love to meet him and see what he looks like but if I'll just get intimidated, siguro wag na lang. =)

I've seen, chatted, met up, partied and got drunk with most of them.

They are individually intimidating.

But the most I think would be, AJ. Peace!

Gibbs, Migs and Mcvie are definitely amiable but Mcvie sometimes scares the hell out of me for some odd reason.

CC? He's cool, way too cool. :)

And Tony is definitely a man of wit and humor.

I like this post.

Funny and enticing (enticing?).

I don't think I'll be intimidated if I ever meet the fabcasters as a group or individually. I have not met or known any of them personally, but after following ALL of their fabcasts for quite some time now, it never occurred to me that they came across as aloof, cocky, conceited, arrogant, or even antipatiko (or is it antipatika?). I think there is a fine line between being intimidating and self-assured, and in my opinion the fabcasters generally fall in the latter category. Yes, they are high achievers in their own respective fields, but this is unlikely to be a threat since they acknowledge and relay this information with humility naman. While they do not hide what they are proud of, but they don’t make it all they’re about either. While I agree that Migs in his podcasts may come off as a very opinionated straightforward person (and it’s nothing that he should hide either), in fairness to him, he allows the conversation to flow in both directions and does not make his guests/interviewees feel intimidated into submission. I guess the challenge for any of their prospective dates would be for them to look beyond these barriers (their so-called “intimidating factors”), appreciate and accept their humanity, warts and all. (Besides, hindi naman yung achievements or katawan nila ang dahilan kung bakit mo sila ide-date or magiging prospective partner, diba? Unless of course may ulterior motive ka.)

Ang nameet ko pa lang sa inyo ay sina AJ, Gibbs, and McVie. Yung kay McVie ang pinakaweird.

It happened last Gay Pride. I was with a friend who was a big fan of the Fabcasters. And when he saw McVie at the Remedios Circle, my friend was adamant that he had to meet and greet McVie. To the point that we had to follow him all the way to where he parked his car. I was so ashamed of such stalkerish behavior. So there.

Intimidating? Well, yeah, lalo na si AJ, ang taray kasi ha ha ha!

I've seen all of you in a couple of Fabcast parties, had lengthy conversations even, and I don't think NONE of you are intimidating. If I were an early to mid-twenties gay boy with nothing to show yet as an achievement or at least a game plan in life, yes I would be intimidated if faced with adults who have jobs and have the advantage of age and experience to impress or regale the younger set with. Or if I were also a loser beside a winner, THAT would also be intimidating.

I agree with the anonymous commenter above. I think the conversation above has way too many assumptions. It’s amusing with an ego-massaging direction and putting it out here for others to read, well, puts you more in a comical light. I has an effect though. It raises the ante… in words. Just by simply discussing ‘do people find you intimidating or not’ raise expectations EVEN if in the end you try to say so otherwise.

Your conversations are a source of amusement, a few times informative. But discussing things about your own lives and focusing discussions on yourselves… well, what else is there to discover about you (fabcasters) when you’ve placed it all out there. You become soundbytes.

And face it, when men discuss of things about themselves, because of ego, there will always be something added into the mix, especially in the adjectives. An image is formed of you that will always not correspond with the real, actual person.

Because you talk online, people listen to you. People form images of you in their minds. This is much more magnified in the mind of gay guys who, by nature or by sexuality, see things larger than life. And if these images formed from hearing your opinions and voices don’t match the actual you, well, at least they would have ‘ates’ to look up to.

The conversation thread, as a whole, sounds like a repartee between aging divas on the phone while one or two is on a cruise ship prospecting for a hunky sailor to lure into their cabanas.

spaquarium said...

Shet, ako ang na-intimidate sa analysis ni anon (june 5 9:28am). Taray!

*agreed! It is exactly that, a repartee between aging diva friends. That is what makes it so comical. Ego stroking? Sure. Intimidating? Not at all. :D

I also think you hit the nail on the head with this statement. If we were women, we'd be a pack of cougars (except for AJ). Dabah lang CC? ROFL!

"If I were an early to mid-twenties gay boy with nothing to show yet as an achievement or at least a game plan in life, yes I would be intimidated if faced with adults who have jobs and have the advantage of age and experience to impress or regale the younger set with."

as a follow-up to tony's cougar remark above, unfortunately, there are only two reasons for gay male 'cougars' to expire: 1) when you cannot get 'it' up anymore; and 2) when the wallet has run dry. either way, both are sad occasions. and when THAT expiration comes, that's when old gay friends start to talk of the past - the men/boys they've had, the past loves, the what-if's and the hilarious escapades. :-)

hi cc raiders.. just to answer @mcvie's question ....i think if my memory is right ..saw u at FF RCBC Plaza tagal na yun... matangkad ka nga in person, goatee pa hehe... tapos moved to Ortigas branch na... d2 ko naman nakita si Tony naka sando... at first di mo aakalain na bading ..wait till he talks, may mga sablay na.. hehehe ;D...

I must admit, am one of the silent subscribers of your podcasts - nakakawala talaga ng stress sa office lalo na yung mga kulitan at tawanan...

now my impressions? let me grab this chance and say....

Miggs>>From the note above, cute ba talaga sya in person? Interesting, hehe.... Tapos i heard one saying in one podcast, mataba daw sya? how true? hehe
Based on podcast, hearing him talk and sense things, he is one rational guy to match...Walang duda

Gibbs>> Sya yung semikal na medyo chubby diba? hehe, If Migs is rational, then Gibbs is even more rational. Every time i hear him speak during podcast, all his philosophical views in life are deep and worth listening to... Kahit na bosses kiki sya sa podcast, sorry to say this, totoo kasi e hehe, i still find him nice and decent. His advices are enriching...

Tony>> From the note above... macho sya? I bumped him one or four times in ortigas FF, di nya ako kilala pero sya kilala ko . hehe...but am not a stalker ha. hehe... May katawan nga sya.... aba dapat lang at sayang ang pagygygym.;D

My initial impression on him is that he is intimidating....maybe the way he acts(?) pero nung narinig ko na sya over the succeeding podcasts i was wrong afterall. hindi naman pala.... in fact he seems cool .. kabossess nya yung isang schoolmate ko na ngayon e.. na nasa singapore .... akala ko tuloy kaclassmate kita nung college.

Uy, Discount naman dyan sa business mo tony ha... hehe ;D

McVie>> i feel like quoting the one who commented on him earlier... an ideal friend! When i hear him during podcast, i feel like he is one open-minded guy. Para bang ayaw nya ng away.... parang bang lahat e kaibigan nya.. ganun ang impression ko ha (based on podcast)

AJ>>Well what can i say? He sounds mataray nga like the one commented earlier...(hehe). Baka naman moodswing lang siguro.... monthly period ika nga? hehehe?

CC>> From the quote above, "sounds like an ideal man". Hmmm,i couldn't help but feels the same. Again, my INITIAL IMPRESSION, ayoko lumaki ulo ni CC.. hehehe.. let's face it... Sino ba naman ang hindi magkakainteres sa kanya?... mayaman (kaw ba naman ang CEO?) , macho (see those pics posted?), matalino (hear his testimonials and podcasts?).. tanungin mo lahat ng discreet peeps everywhere...ganun din siguro ang ideal man nila?... i haven't met him in person but based on may assumption mukhang may hitsura din ito which seems interesting despite being the eldest among the fabcasters. But unlike Gibs' footnotes on podcasts which is more philosophical, deep and thoughtful, i find CC a bit more classy, sophisticated and practical. His witty remarks during podcast makes the topic even more interesting. No wonder how he relates coming from the corporate world. i could almost relate to his stories... the reason why i keep on coming back on his blog. BUT BUT... these are all my impressions ok, just my assumptions.... i maybe looking at the different CC now or maybe seeing the tip of the iceberg, who knows? hahaha..

@Anonymous June 6, 2010 3:07 AM:

Assuming that you're only creating a mental imagery of their appearance based solely on the fabcasts, NEVER did any of the fabcasters in any of the fabcast episodes insinuate that Gibbs was "medyo chubby." In fact, in the "Despedida" fabcast, McVie even exclaimed in jest that "Eh ang policy ni Gibbs, no chubs!" In the same fabcast, Gibbs even teased Migs about his appearance by describing him as "ang shoba-shoba niya" and in another fabcast, he made a comment to Migs' critics by sarcastically stating that "si Danton Remoto po ay payat!" Moreover, in the "Paano Ba Magka-Jowa" episode, Gibbs even made a funny remark about a chubby bathhouse guy who "rolls and bounces along," referring then to the chubby guy's strategy in attracting chub chasers in the bathhouse.

So in fairness naman kay Gibbs, kung in-assume mo na "medyo chubby" nga siya, then self-defeating naman yata yung mga comments niya about chubby guys, hindi ba?

Although I haven't seen him in person (only in photos since I'm part of his FB contact list), I can safely attest that he's the exact opposite. In Gibbs' own words, "sheer" pa nga siya.

Too true, the fabcasters are all accomplished in each of their niches. A newbie would take one look at a fabcaster and think, "This is the gay success story: smart, financially stable, glamorous without even trying." Who wouldn't be starstruck? I know I was.

On the other side of the coin, why would a fabcaster waste their time with a no-namer? Aside from romantic pursuits, the new generation of gays are worth inspecting because they are evolving. They're commodities whose value is appraised in future-tense, in their infinite possibility and promise, in their intrinsic new-ness and accompanying potential.

So, to you who are intimidated, I say: "P~shaw!" The fabcasters are bonded by their casual fun, inquisitive natures, and, of course, preference for bedfellows. Nothing here to be scared of, but everything to be learned from. I know I did, and am eternally grateful.

It is fun reading the blogs of fabcasters. One gets that the fabcasters are introspective of their relationships that they would make ideal partners.

But while wanting to date a fabcaster, at the same time, you don't want to be part of their lives. It is fun reading their reflections on the relationships they make. But I doubt if a reader would want to be involved with a fabcaster and read about a fabcaster's introspection on the relationship. At the end of the day, you want to be with someone At the end of the day, you want to be with someone you can share your ups and downs without fear of sounding stupid or being ridiculed. There lies the problem of being perceived as too witty, intelligent and introspective.

Fans wish to meet "celebs," to date them. Who wouldn't want to be involved with a Bradd Pitt? But fans also know that they can't be with "celebs" because these things happen only in the boob tube.
